"DHARMA AND KARMA"

In the world of deception where everyone in this world runs for money, lust and has greed in his mind. The Ramayana is not just a story that happened long ago,it has a philosophical, spiritual significance and a deep truth within it. The question is where does the mystery and mystique of "RAMAYANA" lie? How have the book, for a millennium pulled off such a deep influence on our minds, generation after generation without fail? Is it just the characters of Ram and Sita or something else? Is the plot and the universal nature of it that describe the human condition like no other book has done? Without doubt,it penetrates, sometimes transforms our very being in ways that has surpassed any other book or show in the history of mankind.

It's not that this book influenced only us but also the western countries. Many great psychologists, psychiatrists, and sociologists have often wondered the influence the work of "RAMAYANA" have put on common people of those countries. Now let's understand the meaning behind the words.

The words ‘rays’ and ‘radiance’ come from the Sanskrit root word ‘ra’. ‘Ra’ means light, ‘Ma’ means within me, in my heart. So, Rama means the light within me. That which is radiant in every particle of the being is Rama.

Rama was born to Dasharath and Kousalya. Dasharath means ‘Ten Chariots’.The ten chariots symbolise the five sense organs and five organs of action. Kousalya means ‘skill’. The skilful rider of the ten chariots can give birth to Ram. When the ten are used skilfully, radiance is born within.

According to SRI SRI RAVI SHANKAR "Your soul is Rama, your mind is Sita, your breath or life-force(prana) is Hanuman, your awareness is Laxmana and your ego is Ravana.  When the mind was stolen by Ravana (the ego) then the soul got restless. Now the soul cannot reach the mind on its own, it has to take the help of the breath – the prana. With the help of the prana, the mind got reunited with the soul, and the ego vanished. "

Let's look at some of the lessons from "RAMAYANA".

1.Truth Triumphs-The basic teaching of Ramayana is that no matter how powerful evil is, it will always be defeated by Good. Truth always wins, no matter how vicious or poisonous lie is because even a bitter truth oozes with positivity and the sweetest lie has the darkest agenda behind it.
The win of good over evil is a universal fate. A person should always have a noble heart and good values. That is how Lord Rama defeated the most knowledgeable person in history Ravana.
2.Your relations are more valuable than anything in this world- The relationship between Rama, Laxman, and Bharat is the perfect example why you should always value your relationships. Every relationship should be above than greed, anger or treachery. When Lord Rama was sent to van-vaas for fourteen years, Laxman accompanied him and supported him in good and bad. Bharat, who was given the Kingdom, never considered himself as a king instead he played an acting king till Lord Rama returned home and handed over the Kingdom to Rama. Thier love for each other was greater than money or property and that made them exemplary in history. If we hold love higher above anything else in a relationship, the value and respect increases and your soul stays pure.

3.Treat everyone equally- Lord Ram has his best friend "NISAD RAJ", who was a small caste guy. In today's era where there is caste system and in that one high caste don't want to even sit with low caste.Ram was Khastriya by birth and was worshipped as god but he sat and ate with him many times. Lord Rama treated everyone equally and that’s how he earned the love and respect among everyone. No matter if a person was younger or elder, poor or rich, he was the same person for everyone.Even when Sabri (the sage’s daughter) offered him the already tasted berry fruits he ate them without giving a second thought. He was always kind and humble to people. We should toe inhere this quality. We should always treat everyone with equality and should not discriminate on the basis of status, sex, age, or cast.

4.HANUMAN'S DEVOTION-Dedication & devotion of Hanuman towards his Lord is not to be seen in anyone anywhere in this world. Such was the dedication toward his Lord that Hanuman faced all obstacles, be it burning the Lanka or bringing the Sanjeevani mountain to rescue Laxman (younger brother of Lord Ram) from death, he feared nothing and went ahead at his service. Honesty and standing headstrong at the service of your master, during tough times is something we all should learn from Ram bhakt Hanuman.

5.All that glitters is not gold – Sita got attracted to a spotted deer that looked incredibly beautiful. She wanted Ram to get the deer for her from the jungle. Actually, it wasn’t a deer, but Mareech, Ravana’s accomplice in disguise of the animal. In this world of deception you will get a lot of distraction, and as a student it is common. You all know what happened to Mata Sita due to that deer. So you all should understand it seriously.

6.Abandon the following- Kama (lust), Krodha (anger), Moha (desire), Lobha (greed), Mada (pride), Ahankar (ego), Irshya (jealousy), Jaddata (insensitivity), Ghrina (hatred), Bhaya (fear).
At last always keep one thing in mind.In pursuing Dharma (righteousness), both Artha (materialistic pleasures) and Kama (sense pleasures) can be and must be sacrificed. These two pursuits should never be at the cost of Dharma. Lessons from Ramayana are plenty but one of the most important is that the ultimate goal of life is Moksha (liberation) and it can be attained only by relinquishing Artha and Kama and by strictly following a life of Dharma. RAM was the avatar of Vishnu but he went for exile just because of keeping his father's promise. His sacrifice can't ever be forgotten.
One thing that I would like to tell you all is kindly know you religion, respect your religion because in modern world I have seen a lot that people are making fun of their religion.Hindu religion looks at the entire cosmos as having originated from a common source—a fact that even modern science and physics now hold to be true. Therefore, in Hindu philosophy, there is no place for discrimination on the basis of religion, ideology or worldview, either with other religions and belief systems on one hand or with modern science on the other hand. Protect your DHARMA then only, DHARMA will protect you.
